My goal with this cover was to replicate the beautiful yet melancholic nature of the story. While their scientific value is debatable, there is still something about inkblot tests that feels so contemplative and mysterious, so I thought that making one out of the titular 'Flowers' could yield some interesting results.

I ended up finding some excellent stock photos and began mirroring them to see what forms I could come up with, eventually creating one that had mouse-like 'face' in it. The chance to reference the other half of the cover was simply too tantalizing to not completely capitalize on, so I did some light shading work to enhance those features and add a little something extra to my inkblot for 'readers' to appreciate.
